Mystery game review: Misadventures of Laura Silver (Chapter 1)

T82I8_.png

Hello, everyone! I’m finally keeping my promises and reviewing the games I received a key for. First was SoulSet, now it’s Misadventures of Laura Silver (thank you, Studio Attic Salt for providing me the key ❤️)!! There’s actually one more game I was asked to review around September and the developer didn’t mind waiting since, at the time, I was extremely busy with the courses I finished this month. But I’m so dumb that I forgot to claim the key and now it’s unavailable… I don’t want to send the developer an email and demand for a key ‘cause that just doesn’t sit well with me. But, developer, if you read this and still want me to review your game, please let me know!

Back to the review~

Laura Silver is a paranormal (and paranoid) detective who loves guns receives the task of investigating a monster, called “The Vodnik”, alongside former policeman Orewell Cooper, in the country of Czechoslovakia. Unfortunately for her, these two find themselves stuck in a “normal” case of murder mystery inside the hotel they are staying at. How will Silver’s misadventures unfold?

NOTE: This review contains spoilers so read at your own risk. If you want to avoid them, though, just jump to “conclusive thoughts”.

Otome-Mystery game review: SoulSet

SoulSet-Free-Download

Hello everyone! It’s been quite a while, hasn’t it? I’ll probably be completely “off hiatus” around January but, since I wanted to rest a bit from all the work I had to do for the courses I took this year, I figured ‘hey, why not finish playing SoulSet?’ The key was provided by Nayru, creator of this game, so that I could make a review afterwards. Thank you very much ! ❤

In a world where magic, dragons and spirits are present, SoulSet follows the story of Mariko Blairnot, a woman who finds herself trapped in a mansion —surrounded by a magical barrier— together with five other people who have amnesia. In fact, Mariko has amnesia herself, and only remembers bits of her past, specifically having to do with her mother’s death, her dragon companion called Isshin, and a mysterious necromancer who goes by the name of Feathor. Since those two are nowhere to be found, Mariko resolves to investigate her surroundings and having to decide who to trust among the five strangers.

Will she be able to remember her past and manage to escape the mansion alive?

NOTE: This game is marked as NSFW because it has sexual themes, strong language and violence, so keep that in mind.

As always, if you don’t wanna be spoiled, just head to conclusive thoughts.

Mystery-Adventure-Comedy game review: The Darkside Detective

darkside

Hello everyone! It’s been like 100 years since I last posted a review about a mystery game 😆 so I decided to write one about The Darkside Detective, an indie Steam game available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The game was so well received that it even got funded on kickstarter for a second season (the first season was funded on kickstarter too)!! Woo!!

In this game, you play as McQueen, a detective who works alongside his partner, Officer Dooley, in the Darkside Divison; which is lacking in budget but filled with paranormal and occult cases. Will McQueen ever get a raise? 😆

Hellooooo everyone!!! 😀 How have you been? Today I’m going to review Cafe 0 ~The Sleeping Beast~!! Well, truth is I already wrote a review about this game on steam (ask me if you wanna know my username 😉 ) but I also wanted to write a review here, so it’ll be kind of similar (there might even be some copy-paste lol) to the one on steam but at least it’ll keep my blog fuller ❤

Without further ado, let’s begin!!!

NOTE: This review contains mild spoilers so read at your own risk. If you want to avoid them, though, just jump to “conclusive thoughts”.

Mystery game review: Chase: Cold Case Investigations – Distant Memories

chase

After years of not hearing anything about Taisuke Kanasaki (director of Another Code and Hotel Dusk) I was very excited to come upon his new game being sold at the Nintendo eshop. Sadly, it’s not what I expected. At all. And this review will tell you why it was so disappointing.

Cold Case is a unit in the police department in charge of, if you’ll forgive the repetition, cases that have gone cold. This means, old cases that were closed yet, for some reason, have the need to be reopened. Our two main characters, the detectives if you will, are Shounosuke Nanase and his assistant Koto Amekura. They suddenly receive a suspicious phone call saying that the explosion that took place five years ago in a hospital, were only one person died, was not an accident but murder. What will the detectives do?

NOTE: This review contains mild spoilers so read at your own risk. If you want to avoid them, though, just jump to “conclusive thoughts”. Still, I don’t really recommend this game so, if you don’t mind, be my guest to read why I think so…but be warned that it contains a bit of “strong language” if you will 😆 and that this is only my personal opinion.

Mystery game review: SHINRAI – Broken Beyond Despair

mwtypz

I was actually thinking about my first mystery game review being of Ace Attorney but I finally decided to choose Shinrai, a game that was recently released. I won a copy of it together with the OST and was very happy about it, I very rarely win stuff so it was awesome and am very grateful; thank you GosatsuVNs! Anywho, let’s get on with it, shall we?

Shinrai takes place in a secluded mountain resort, where a group of ten classmates reunite to celebrate a Halloween party. The protagonist is Raiko, a quiet and reserved girl who was somehow forced to go to the party because of her best friend, Nobara, who’s a real scaredy cat. When they arrive at the resort, they chat a little with their classmates and start enjoying (sort of  😆 ) the party. However, at a certain point in time, one of the party’s attendants is found dead. Will Raiko solve the mystery?

Note: This review contains HUGE spoilers (culprit is revealed!) so read at your own risk. If you want to avoid them, though, just jump to “conclusive thoughts”.

A little tour through Pacthesis’ games

So, after some pondering of what should my first post be about, I decided to dedicate it to the wonderful world of Pacthesis’ games. For those who don’t know who she is, Pacthesis (aka Amy) is the creator of several flash sim dates in Deviantart (most of them made when she was in High School!). But right now, understandably, she is busy with life and has been on a hiatus for almost two years. If she ever comes back and starts making games commercially, my wallet and I will be ready to buy her stuff, since it’s thanks to her that I got into otome games in the first place. Pacthesis’ games are a perfect example of how art can improve over time and how, to my mind, STORY REIGNS ABOVE ALL.

Note: This review contains very mild spoilers but if you still want to avoid them just jump to “conclusive thoughts”.
